    From Thirsk: The abbey is around a 20-minute drive (about 8 miles). Take the A170 heading east, then turn off onto the B1257 following signs toward Coxwold and Byland Abbey.

    From Helmsley: It’s a short 15-minute drive from Helmsley (about 6 miles). Take the A170 west, then the B1257 south, and follow the signs.

    Parking: Free parking is available near the entrance to the abbey.

    Public transport options are limited, but there are some local buses that connect nearby towns with the villages around Byland Abbey.

    From York or Helmsley, look for local bus route (31X) that stop in Coxwold or Ampleforth, the villages closest to the abbey, and arrange for a taxi or walk the remaining distance.
